On Saturday, May 19th, we celebrated Coney Island Generation Gap, an organization that has been so active in serving their youth, their neighbors and the entire community since Sandy. Executive Director Pam Harris, who herself lost the entire first floor of her home, and the rest of her amazing team, embodies the spirit of resiliency that has helped Coney Island along on its path to recovery. #ConeyRecovers
Hello from the #ConeyIsland #BrooklynHalf Finish Line!
NYC Recovery -
New Yorkers living and working in communities affected by Hurricane Sandy face many challenges as they rebuild their homes, restore their businesses and get their lives back to normal. This site provides access to information on the City’s efforts to help New Yorkers recover from the devastating effects of the storm.
This weekend, Coney Island will serve as the finish line for the NYRR’s Brooklyn Half Marathon. In what will be the biggest event in the area since Hurricane Sandy, the race is symbolic of the ongoing work of recovery in our neighborhood. And thanks to the generosity of the New York Road Runners and the race participants, we’re also raising resources and awareness for the neighborhood. See you on the Boardwalk!
News12 Coverage about #ConeyRecovers Awards Dinner Last Night:
Dozens of Coney Island businesses damaged by Superstorm Sandy have been awarded more than $100,000 in recovery grants.
The relief organization #ConeyRecovers handed out the money at Gargiulo’s Restaurant. Those involved say it’s not just about getting businesses back on track, but also about strengthening the community as a whole.
The grants came from donations that were privately fundraised.
Tonight in Coney Island we celebrated our progress in neighborhood recovery with businesses, not-for-profits, and residents. Over $100k of grant funding distributed, and many accomplishments recognized! Thanks to the NYRR for sponsoring tonight’s event, to the thousands who have volunteered and donated over the past six months, and to Coney Island for its amazing resilience in the face of challenge and adversity. #ConeyRecovers
